One Day at a Time
A lot of the time I remember stuff from my past that hurts me or that makes me cringe loads of people will experience this especially if you were a much different person in the past if you are someone who evolves over time you may have a lot of regrets especially if you have had issues with addiction which the title of this post is often associated with.
There isn't really a way to fix this to be honest at least if there is I don't know it, it can get better though and there are better ways to think about it but stuff from your past will haunt you and stuff potentially in your future will worry you and that is being human.
Anyway living one day at a time the way I see it at least is to simply not mess up too bad today forget about tomorrow and forget about yesterday if you can have a day that isn't a total disaster (it doesn't have to be a good day) then when you wake up the next day try to achieve this again - rinse and repeat. Before you know it it has been months or even years and you have changed for the better.
Also people view this too technically minded sometimes and try to disqualify it by saying things like "if you make no plans you'll get nowhere" it doesn't mean that, it means to hold fast, the past has happened you can't change it so learn from it as much as you can and move on. The future hasn't happened it is being made so use what you know to make it as good as you can - hold fast do not fret.
When you are worrying about the past or the future it's good to pray or work out or both is what I usually do, prayer and exercise are better than all the therapy in the world. Oh and just because something feels bad doesn't mean it is bad to be feeling it, if you feel shame for doing something in your past then that means you have evolved and realise the error of your ways, if you feel cringe that means you are now less cringe haha, all joking aside you are improving.
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:34 ESV
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Philippians 3:13-15 ESV
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
